If you are a YouTube fan, you will find the quality of YouTube videos is better and better. Now if you go to the HD section, you will find the video quality extremely good. That’s because the videos in HD section are mostly F4V and H.264 encoded FLV with higher quality. This article is to tell you the way to edit these F4V and H.264 encoded FLV files with a free FLV editor. After the editing, you can upload online, play on your own computer, or convert to other formats for your portable devices.
Why do you edit the FLV or F4V?
Maybe you are running a website or blog, and would like to insert some wonderful video contents to make it more attractive. It is true that you have many alternatives to get the content. But the way I’m recommending is the easiest and most costless one. All you need to have is a free FLV downloader and a free FLV editor.
Videos on YouTube, no matter it is an FLV or F4V, are all formatted as FLV. It’s very easy to download them with YouTube FLV Downloader.
To download the YouTube F4V videos you can follow the easy steps below:
1. Launch the program and go to Capture section.
2. Switch to the browser and click to play the FLV/F4V video.
3. While the video is playing, you will find the FLV/F4V URL placed in the downloader.
4. Select the URL and click the Download button to download.
5. In Downloading section, you can see the process.
6. After download, you can find the downloaded FLV/F4V in History or Library sections.
7. Right click on file, and you will have selections to play, edit or convert the FLV/F4V.
Now you can edit the FLV/F4V with free FLV Editor Lite.
1. Import FLV/F4V/MP3
To edit the downloaded FLV/F4V, you can select Edit on right-click menu of YouTube FLV Downloader. Or you can launch the FLV editor and click Import FLV from Media Library (from YouTube FLV Downloader). You can also import FLV from your computer and IE Cache. Besides, you can also import MP3 file and export FLV or MP3.
The F4V will be transformed to H.264 FLV while importing. There will be no quality loss. And the files will be placed on Timeline. Double-clicking on file, you can play it on Preview Pane.
If you are using the free Lite version, you can only import 5 files at one time. And only a single MP3 can be imported. But the Ultimate version is without limitations and with more powerful functions.
2. Edit FLV/F4V/MP3
There are several ways to edit FLV/F4V/MP3. You can edit with buttons on Timeline Toolbar, right-click menu on Timeline, or short-cut keys.
Edit with buttons on Timeline Toolbar.
With this program, you can easily trim F4V, cut F4V, merge F4V, and split F4V video and audio. Before all, you must drag and drop the clips on Timeline.
To trim FLV/F4V/MP3, you can drag the edge of a clip.
To cut FLV/F4V/MP3, you can drag the pointer to the right position and click the Scissor button to cut.
It is very easy to merge FLV/F4V/MP3 with this program since all clips on Timeline will be exported as a single file.
To split FLV/F4V video and audio, you can select the clip and click Unlink button. And then you can select and delete the unwanted part and replace it with your desired FLV/F4V audio or MP3.
You can also add metadata and cue points to your clips on Timeline. Just click the right button to enable the editing tab and click “+” to add.
Undo and redo: It doesn’t matter if you have done some wrong settings on the clips since you can click button to undo your previous setting or redo the canceled setting.

Other than functions on Timeline Toolbar, you can also trim blank part among clips on Timeline, rename select clip for easier editing, and insert clips directly to Timeline.
Edit with short-cut keys.
With the help of short-cut keys, you can edit FLV/F4V/MP3 more precisely and easily.
Ctrl + A to select all;
Ctrl + Z to undo or redo;
Ctrl + left/right to move the clip;
Ctrl + click on clip to select or deselect multiple clips on Timeline. And then you can move them together.
Delete: Press Delete key on keyboard and you can delete the selected clip or clips on Timeline.
3. Export FLV/SWF/HTML/MP3
After the editing, you can export FLV, SWF, HTML, and MP3.
If you plan to watch the FLV on your computer with some free FLV player, you can click Export FLV button.
To watch in Library of YouTube FLV Downloader, you can click Export FLV to Media Library.
To watch on your iPod, iPhone, PSP, Xbox, Zune, Pocket PC, etc., you can click Export to FLV to Video Converter, and convert the file to the right format.
If the original audios codecs are MP3, you can export MP3 file by clicking Export MP3.
If you plan to upload the video to your website or blog, you can click Export SWF button. And then you can select your favorite player skins, preloaders, and special effects. You can even set profile for the player to set whether to auto play the video or auto hide the control bar. For Lite version, you have 3 options in each section of Player skin (with Moyea logo and link), Preloader, and Special effects. And also navigation on click is set to the official website and cannot be reset. But the Ultimate version is without these limitations and with more player skins, preloaders, and special effects.
After selecting the skins, you can click OK to Export SWF window.
You can check to generate an HTML file for embedding the video. After a few seconds, you can get the FLV, SWF, HTML, and JPEG files. Uploading the files to the same folder of your server, you can stream the FLV online.
If you haven’t checked to generate HTML file, you can upload the SWF, FLV, and JPEG files first, and code your webpage as follows.

You can replace the bold part, “example.swf”, with your own SWF file, and reset width and height.
Please note that the FLV, SWF, HTML, and JPEG files must be uploaded in a same path of your server.
Now you will get the F4V/FLV/MP3 online without any quality loss.
